For the Dogs!
I have yet again received an e-mail purportedly from the IRS regarding my “refund report”. The e-mail contains an attachment in compressed (i.e., zip) format.
I would like to warn everyone that the IRS never – and I mean never – initiates contact with taxpayers through e-mail. Unless you are working/dealing with a specific IRS employee and are expecting an e-mail from that specific person, do not open any e-mail purportedly from the IRS. These are scams that are trying to secure personal identification information in order to steal identities.
Instead, forward the e-mail to the IRS Fraud Desk at phishing@irs.gov. Please take care to protect your identity.
